Russ is self-taught and started playing and writing his own songs when he hit double figures, He left his first band in 2006 with a view to forming a new band. However, finding new musicians took longer than was first anticipated. Always one to see the good in a situation, Russ used this time to write new material and generally develop his playing style.
This was a very creative time - writing and playing and learning new tricks. During this period Russ collaborated with anyone and everyone and eventually hooked up on an informal basis with Jack Griffin (aka "JTC" ). This pairing of Russ and JTC formed the early nucleus of what was to become "Syruss".
Over time, the loose association between JTC and Russ changed into something more permanent and saw JTC the drum warrior join up and help define the Syruss "wall of sound".
With a more permanent arrangement between Russ and JTC in place, rehearsals got underway. Choosing songs from Russ's catalogue that would work for the emerging "Syruss", Russ and JTC were by now getting together regularly at the Devon farmhouse occupied by Jack and his family. Cattle in the nearby fields were seen moshing to the strains of the new songs taking shape and blasting out of the open windows... the joy of not having neighbours.
It's 2008 and with Andy on bass and Nath on guitar the 4 piece Syruss line-up is now complete.
Both Andy and Nath bring their own unique styles to the mix in a way that compliments the already powerful and unconventional mix of Russ and JTC. Andy brings a nice blend of funky slap to the bass with a big presence which works well alongside the powerhouse that is JTC. Nath brings a precision and a dynamic to the overall that provides a good accompaniment to the more full on assault from Russ.
Syruss are now rehearsing in preparation for recording and releasing their first EP in 2008. The story continues... be a part of it.
Syruss is endorsed by Unsigned Band Promotion.
