Richard Murray
I am an alt. country singer/songwriter from N. Ireland and now London. A collection of my songs cover a lot of ground although they maintain a distinctive common thread. The artists and bands who have influenced me most over the years include, Van Morrison, Dylan, Springsteen, Steve Earle, Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams and Thin Lizzy. This is quite a blend but somehow it comes together in my head and in my songs in a coherent way. I like to write about personal subject matter, create characters and tell stories, things synonymous with country music, but I try not to let the boundaries of genre inhibit me. The aim is that my songs will sound like an old friend who you've never met.

My music would come under the term 'alt. country' (whatever that is). This genre casts a pretty wide net, as does my music. My influences stem originally from my family - my dad played and sang in a country band, my mum is a professional Irish music pianist, and my brother a classic rock enthusiast. My songs and their performance certainly have a lot of these elements but they are also quite unique and very much my own. I spent many years studying music, playing in all kinds of bands and working as a session musician, all the time writing and recording my own material. The result is music which has a great deal of scope but is deceptively simple and accessible.
My début album 'Desert Wind' was released in 2008 and it is presently enjoying great reviews and extensive airplay in many countries. It has been described as 'the complete package of excellent musicianship, production and song-writing'. I penned all 13 tracks on Desert Wind and I tried to cover a lot of ground on the album myself in terms of instruments and production although I did manage to secure the help of some the best players in London not to mention David Hearn, one of the best producers and musicians I've met.
Aside from making the album I have been busy playing live both as a solo act and as a hired gun in an array of groups. Most recently I have been recording and touring with London artists Eden James and Viv Youell and rocking out in Europe with Alpine legends the 'Juggernaut of Rock'. I am also assuming some bass duties with Nashville outfit 'The Silver Seas' and guitar with the soulful divas of 'Miss Golightly'.
I am presently promoting Desert Wind and working on new material both for myself and other artists. I am also performing regularly the songs are going from strength to strength. Hope to see you at a show soon!
