...by Exchanging Gig Listings

Exchanging links (reciprocal linking) with other bands of the same genre, is the usual way to begin promoting your band's website. Then you can branch out by adding your website address to all and sundry! However, online band/website promotion should be focused and aim at achieving a goal, e.g: get as many people as possible to hear your music, or: inform as many people as possible about your next gig date. Online band promotion isn't only promoting your band's website.

With "inform as many people as possible about your next gig date" as the target; here is a simple method of reciprocal linking that includes, exchanging your band's gig dates (syndicating gig listings) and giving away your free MP3.

How to do it!

  1. Create a plain text file in Notepad called gigs.js.
  2. Copy & Paste the "JavaScript Code" (provided below) into gigs.js or copy gigs.txt and rename it! Keep it updated with your gig and MP3 details.
  3. Copy & Paste the "Gig Listings Code" (provided below) into your Webpage. Update with your information.
  4. Upload: gigs.js and the Webpage to your Server/Web Host.
  5. Swap links (code provided below) with bands of the same genre and or within the same geographical area.
  6. Now your band's website has back links, there are links to your latest MP3, and other bands are displaying your next gig date from their websites.
    That is syndicating gig listings
YOU can change the gig dates/MP3 as and when, by updating: gigs.js.

The JavaScript Code for file: gigs.js

Note: make sure you create a plain text file in Notepad.
Don't set the style. Setting the style may cause the links and gig listing to be invisible.
Don't use ' [single quote] or " [double quote] within the text or it will cause an error.

/* comment: below is where you enter the date and time of the gig */
document.write("GIG_DATE at GIG_TIME<br>")

/* comment: below is where you enter the venue and town/place */
document.write("GIG_VENUE - GIG_TOWN -")

/* comment: below is where you enter the MP3 address */
document.write("<a href='http://www.YourBandName.com/song.mp3'><i>listen now</i></a>")
